Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (16 ounce) bag small pretzel twists
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Spread the pretzel twists in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure they are close together, but not overlapping.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, stir in the sugar and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved. It will be bubbly and smooth.
  • Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, without stirring, for 3 minutes.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Immediately pour the toffee sauce evenly over the pretzels, making sure to coat them as much as possible. Use a spatula to spread the sauce into any gaps between the pretzels.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes. The toffee will be bubbly and the pretzels will be lightly golden.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly over the toffee-covered pretzels, if using. Gently press the pecans into the toffee to help them adhere.
  • Let the pretzels cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cooled, break the pretzels into clusters or pieces.
