Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 tablespoons butter, unsalted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  • Prepare the Green Beans. Start by washing and trimming your green beans. Snap off the ends, or cut them with a knife. Make sure they’re all roughly the same length.
  • Sauté the Garlic. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Cook the Green Beans. Add the green beans to the skillet and toss to coat them in the butter and garlic mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Steam the Green Beans. Add about 2 tablespoons of water to the skillet, then cover and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the green beans are tender-crisp. The water will create steam that helps cook the beans evenly.
  • Finish and Serve. Remove the lid and cook for another minute or two, until any excess water has evaporated. Stir in the lemon juice and parsley. Serve immediately.
