Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ cups shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a 9×13 inch baking dish, combine the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the dish to create a firm crust.
  • Pour the entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the graham cracker crust, ensuring it covers the entire surface. This sticky layer will bind all the ingredients together.
  • Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the sweetened condensed milk layer. Use your hands to gently press them down slightly into the sticky base.
  • Sprinkle the shredded coconut evenly over the chocolate chips, followed by the chopped pecans or walnuts. Again, lightly press the ingredients into the base.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the coconut is lightly toasted. Keep a close eye on them to prevent burning. After testing this recipe several times, I learned that the center should still have a slight jiggle.
  • Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the bars cool completely at room temperature. This is crucial for them to set properly. Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
