Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candies, plus more for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large crockpot, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, chocolate chips, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Make sure everything is well combined to prevent clumping.
  • Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally to help the chocolate chips melt evenly. I usually stir it every 30-45 minutes.
  • Once the chocolate chips are completely melted and the mixture is smooth, stir in the peppermint extract and crushed peppermint candies.
  • Keep the crockpot on the “warm” setting for serving. Stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming on top.
  • Ladle the hot chocolate into mugs and garnish with extra crushed peppermint candies, whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings.
