Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Cream Butter and Sugar. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes with an electric mixer).
  • Add Egg and Vanilla. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually Add Dry Ingredients to Wet Ingredients. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Chill the Dough. Divide the dough in half, flatten each half into a disc, and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
  • Preheat Oven and Roll Out Dough. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use football-shaped cookie cutters or create a stadium shape to cut out the cookies.
  • Bake the Cookies. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  • Cool and Decorate. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, decorate with your favorite royal icing, sprinkles, and edible markers to create your football stadium designs.
