Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sprinkles, for decorating (optional)
  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Let the bars cool completely in the pan before frosting.
  • While the bars are cooling, make the frosting. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add the milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Frost the cooled bars with the frosting. Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.
