Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Instructions

  • Cream Together Butter, Cream Cheese, and Sugars. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream together the softened butter, cream cheese, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl occasionally to ensure everything is evenly mixed.
  • Add Eggs and Vanilla. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Mix until well combined. The mixture should be smooth and creamy.
  • Combine Dry Ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. This ensures that the baking soda is evenly distributed throughout the flour.
  • Gradually Add Dry Ingredients to Wet Ingredients. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tough cookies.
  • Stir in Chocolate Chips. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. I like to use a rubber spatula for this step to avoid overmixing.
  • Chill the Dough (Optional but Recommended). Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This helps prevent the cookies from spreading too much during baking. I've found that chilling the dough for even longer, up to a few hours, results in even thicker, chewier cookies.
  • Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Drop Dough Onto Baking Sheet. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie. I like to use a cookie scoop to ensure that all the cookies are the same size.
  • Bake. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft. Remember that ovens vary, so keep an eye on them! They should look just set but still soft in the middle.
  • Cool. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This prevents them from breaking.
  • Notes

Chewy, chocolatey cookies with a secret ingredient (cream cheese) that takes them to the next level. A quick and easy recipe perfect for busy families.
