Festive red and green cookies made easy with a cake mix base, rolled in powdered sugar for that classic crinkled look.

  • 1 box (13.25 ounces) white cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • Wilton red food coloring gel
  • Wilton green food coloring gel
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with a silicon baking mat or parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and the white cake mix.
  4. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal portions.
  6. Place one portion of dough into a small bowl.
  7. Place the second portion of dough into another small bowl.
  8. Add a few drops of Wilton red food coloring gel to the first bowl of dough.
  9. Mix the red dough until the color is fully incorporated. Add more drops if a deeper color is desired.
  10. Add a few drops of Wilton green food coloring gel to the second bowl of dough.
  11. Mix the green dough until the color is fully incorporated. Add more drops if a deeper color is desired.
  12. Refrigerate both portions of dough for at least 30 minutes.
  13. Use a medium cookie scoop to measure out portions of the chilled dough.
  14. Roll each dough ball generously in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  15. Place the rolled dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet.
  16. Bake for 9-11 minutes at 375 degrees F.
  17. Allow the cookies to cool for 1-2 minutes on the baking sheet.
  18. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Ensure your oven is fully preheated for even baking.
Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes; it makes it much easier to work with.
Roll the dough balls generously in powdered sugar to achieve the best crinkle effect.
Do not overbake; cookies should be soft and chewy.
