An incredibly addictive, easy-to-make candy with a buttery toffee layer, chocolate, and a salty cracker crunch, perfect for holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 saltine crackers – 1 package
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups chocolate chips – about 1 package

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a 9×13 inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, ensuring it covers the entire bottom and extends up the sides.
  3. Lightly spray the parchment and sides of the pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  4. Arrange approximately 40 saltine crackers in a single, even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Break a few crackers in half if necessary to fully cover the surface without gaps.
  6. Add 1 cup of unsalted butter and 1 cup of packed brown sugar to a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  7. Melt the butter and sugar over medium-high heat, stirring gently in the middle of the pot just until combined.
  8. Once the mixture begins to bubble across the entire surface (middle and edges), set a timer for exactly 3 minutes.
  9. Let the mixture boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  10. Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltine crackers.
  11. Use a spatula to spread the toffee evenly over the entire tray, ensuring each cracker is coated.
  12. Bake the toffee layer for 5 minutes at 350°F (175°C).
  13. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let it cool for 1-2 minutes.
  14. Evenly sprinkle 2 cups of chocolate chips over the hot toffee layer.
  15. Place the tray back into the warm, turned-off oven for 1 minute to soften the chocolate.
  16. Remove the pan from the oven.
  17. Gently spread the melted chocolate into a smooth, even layer, covering all edges.
  18. Let the candy cool on the counter for 20 minutes.
  19. Refrigerate the candy for 3-4 hours, or until completely firm.
  20. Once fully chilled, lift the cracker candy out of the pan using the parchment paper.
  21. Transfer the candy to a cutting board.
  22. Slice the candy into squares or break it into pieces by hand.
  23. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Ensure parchment paper covers the entire pan for easy removal.
Do not stir the toffee during the 3-minute boil time.
Work quickly when spreading the hot toffee over crackers.
Allow adequate chilling time for the best texture and clean cuts.
